What is "Eto"??

The Chinese zodiac (干支 "Eto" in Japanese) is used in Japanese and Chinese and other Asian cultures to indicate the year, month, day, time, direction, angle and order of things. *Reference: Wikipedia

The Kanji for "noon (正午 shougo)" and "after noon (午後 gogo) are also uses 午 (uma in Japanese) as a word for time. It is in the Chinese zodiac (干支 "Eto") and still used today.

New Year's cards ( 年賀状 Nengajo) are often designed with the animal of the year's zodiac.

"Eto" for 2022 is the tiger !! (Year of the tiger)

We also often hear the phrase ”The grass and trees are sleeping at the Ushi-mitsu-doki...(草木も眠る丑三つ時)" at the beginning of scary stories.

This "Ushi 丑" is also in the "Eto" and the third of the four divisions of the Ushi time in the old days.In today's time, it is about 2:00 am to 2:30 am.
