Mizuhiki
What is "Mizuhiki"??
Mizuhiki is made of Japanese paper. ("Washi" in Japanese.)
For celebrations, red, white and gold are often used. In times of mourning, black, white and in some areas yellow are used.
Mizuhiki is used for wrapping gifts and for New Year's decorations, recently we have seen some accessories made from Mizuhiki.
The way Mizuhiki is tied also has a meaning.
The Musubikiri-knot is used for things that should only happen once and should never happen again. For example, marriage, mourning, illness, etc.
The ribbon knot can be re-tied many times, so it is used for celebrations that can happen many times. For example, for celebrations other than marriage, such as births, new builds, shop openings, year-end gifts, etc.
There are also rules about how many mizuhiki to use, whether to use real or printed mizuhiki, and the rules may vary from region to region. So you should ask someone who knows how to use it .
